Coat of Arms

The Royal Coat of Arms was displayed as a sign of loyalty to the Crown. Crowland Abbey’s Royal Coat of Arms dates from 1775 and the reign of King George III (1760-1801). The words along the bottom dieu et mon droittranslates as ‘God and my right’ and the words around the central shieldhoni soit mal y pense which means ‘shamed be he who thinks evil of it’ and is the motto of the British Order of the Garter.
